Person

Abraham Darby III

An English ironmaster who managed the Coalbrookdale Company during the late eighteenth century. He was the grandson of Abraham Darby I, who pioneered coke-smelting. His construction of the Iron Bridge demonstrated the viability of cast iron for large-scale structures, although the project's immense cost left him in significant debt for the rest of his life.
