Concept

ageing

Ageing refers to the biological and cognitive changes that occur in an individual over time. In psycholinguistics, ageing is closely associated with an increase in tip-of-the-tongue states. This increase is often attributed to the weakening of neural pathways between word meanings and sounds, or alternatively, to the increased difficulty of searching an ever-expanding mental database accumulated over decades of experience.
