Atomic Energy of Canada Limited

A large building illuminated at night with the sign "Atomic Energy of Canada" prominently displayed above the entrance.

A Canadian Crown corporation founded in 1952 to develop civilian nuclear technology, best known for the CANDU reactor. Through its medical division it manufactured a successful line of Cobalt-60 therapy units and, later, the Therac series of linear accelerators. The medical arm was sold off in 1988, partly in the wake of the Therac-25 accidents. The reactor business continued under federal ownership until 2011.
