Person

Boris Belousov

A Soviet chemist and physician who discovered the first oscillating chemical reaction in 1950. Belousov was an outsider to the chemistry establishment, and his discovery was initially rejected by journals that considered it a violation of the laws of thermodynamics. He eventually published his work in an obscure journal in 1959, which laid the foundation for the study of non-equilibrium systems.
