CANDU

The CANDU (Canada Deuterium Uranium) reactor is a pressurized heavy-water reactor design developed in the late 1950s and 1960s. Unlike most light-water reactors, it uses heavy water as both a neutron moderator and a coolant. This allows the reactor to utilize natural uranium as fuel, eliminating the need for expensive enrichment processes. It is a hallmark of Canadian nuclear engineering and is used in power plants worldwide.
