World's Columbian Exposition

A grand, sunlit building with a prominent dome and the words "WORLD COLVIMPIAN" above an archway stands at the center of a bustling fairground, with people in period attire walking around, illuminated by warm sunlight streaming through the misty air.

The Chicago world's fair of 1893, ostensibly marking four hundred years since Columbus reached the Americas. Spread across 690 acres of reclaimed marshland on the south side of the city, it drew 27 million visitors over six months. Westinghouse and Tesla lit its White City with the first large-scale public demonstration of polyphase AC, undercutting Edison's bid by a third and effectively ending the war of currents.
