corpus callosum

The corpus callosum is a large, thick bundle of nerve fibres connecting the left and right cerebral hemispheres of the brain. Composed of millions of axons, it serves as the primary pathway for interhemispheric communication, enabling the transfer of sensory, motor, and cognitive information between the two sides. Severing it, typically to treat severe epilepsy, results in a 'split-brain' condition.
