deuterium oxide

Deuterium oxide, commonly known as heavy water, is a form of water where the standard hydrogen atoms are replaced by deuterium. Although it appears identical to regular water, its increased mass results in different physical properties, such as a higher density and boiling point. It is not radioactive and occurs naturally in trace amounts. Its primary industrial value lies in its ability to facilitate nuclear reactions as a neutron moderator.
