The European Cooperation for Space Standardization, a joint initiative of ESA, national space agencies, and European industry to produce a coherent set of standards for space project management, engineering, and product assurance. Established in the mid-1990s and substantially shaped by the lessons of the Ariane 5 inquiry, its software engineering branch codifies practices around requirements, verification, and the reuse of qualified components.
