Concept

electroencephalography

A diagnostic technique used to record the electrical activity of the brain via electrodes placed on the scalp. In anaesthesia, it provides a real-time window into the patient's neurological state. As consciousness fades, the chaotic high-frequency waves characteristic of wakefulness transition into the large, slow, and highly rhythmic oscillations that indicate deep sedation or coma.
