giant triton

Charonia tritonis is one of the world's largest gastropod molluscs, reaching lengths of up to 50 centimetres. It is one of the few natural predators of the adult crown-of-thorns starfish, using its powerful radula to tear through the starfish's venomous skin. Due to the beauty of its spiralled shell, it has been heavily overfished, a factor many scientists believe contributes to starfish population outbreaks.
