Grand Central Terminal

A historic commuter rail terminal in Midtown Manhattan, opened in 1913. It is famous for its Beaux-Arts architecture and celestial ceiling. The whispering gallery is located on the lower concourse in front of the Oyster Bar, where the Guastavino tile vaults create an acoustic bridge. The hard, glazed surfaces of the tiles allow sound to travel from one corner of the arch to another with remarkable fidelity.
