Concept

Hausdorff dimension

A mathematical concept that extends the notion of dimension beyond simple integers. While a smooth line is one-dimensional, the Hausdorff dimension allows for fractional values that quantify the 'roughness' or complexity of a shape. A coastline with a dimension of 1.25 is more complex and 'fills' more space than a straight line but less than a plane.
