Johann August Ephraim Goeze

A German zoologist and theologian (1731–1793) notable for his extensive work on invertebrates. In 1773, he made the first detailed description of the tardigrade, which he named 'kleiner Wasserbär' (little water bear), recognizing its unique morphology and movement under the microscope. His observations were among the earliest contributions to the study of microscopic life.
