Person

J.P. Morgan

A man with gray hair and a mustache, dressed in a formal suit and tie, stands against a neutral background.

American financier (1837–1913) whose bank underwrote much of late-nineteenth-century American industry, including Edison's electrical companies. Engineered the 1892 merger that combined Edison General Electric with the Thomson-Houston Company to form General Electric, deliberately dropping Edison's name from the new corporation. Also bankrolled the consolidation of US Steel and quietly funded several of Tesla's later, unsuccessful ventures.
