Matthew Meselson

American molecular biologist, born 1930, who with Franklin Stahl performed the 1958 density-gradient experiment that confirmed semi-conservative DNA replication. Later in his career he turned to arms control, helping draft the Biological Weapons Convention and investigating the 1979 anthrax outbreak in Sverdlovsk. Still on the faculty at Harvard into his nineties.
