Microresonator

A microscopic structure, often a ring, sphere, or toroid made of glass or silicon, designed to trap light in a whispering-gallery mode. These devices have an extremely high Q-factor, meaning light can circulate hundreds of thousands of times before being lost. They are used in telecommunications, frequency combs, and as extremely sensitive mass sensors capable of detecting individual nanoparticles or molecules.
