Nathalie Vriend

Nathalie Vriend is a geophysicist who, in 2007, published a paper challenging the prevailing model of booming dunes. Her research proposed that the sound is generated by the compression and release of air between sand grains, rather than by surface waves. This theory introduced a new perspective on the acoustic mechanisms of dunes and sparked further scientific inquiry.
