Nexia Biotechnologies

A goat statue stands in front of a building with the sign "Nexia," illuminated by warm interior lighting under a cloudy sky.

A now-defunct Canadian biotechnology company founded in 1993. It gained widespread attention in the early 2000s for breeding a herd of genetically modified goats at a former military base. The animals expressed spider silk proteins in their milk in an ambitious, though ultimately unsuccessful, attempt to commercially mass-produce bulletproof biomaterials.
