Peter Shor

Peter Shor, an American applied mathematician, is depicted wearing glasses, a dark blazer over a plaid shirt, with a light background behind him.

An American applied mathematician known for his work in quantum computing. In 1994, while working at Bell Labs, he developed a quantum algorithm capable of factoring large integers exponentially faster than classical computers. This discovery demonstrated that widely used public-key cryptography systems would become vulnerable to future quantum hardware.
