phenylalanine

Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid that humans must obtain through their diet, typically found in high-protein foods like milk and meat. It constitutes 50 percent of the aspartame molecule. While vital for protein synthesis, it poses a severe risk to individuals with phenylketonuria, who cannot metabolise it, leading to mandatory warning labels on aspartame products.
