Prince Rupert of the Rhine

A German-English army officer, admiral, and scientist who lived from 1619 to 1682. The nephew of King Charles I, Rupert was a polymath who excelled in chemistry and metallurgy. While he did not invent the glass drops that bear his name, his introduction of them to the English court in 1660 sparked centuries of scientific inquiry.
