Person

Rædwald of East Anglia

A 7th-century King of the East Angles and a member of the Wuffingas dynasty. He is frequently identified by historians as the occupant of the Sutton Hoo ship burial. As a powerful 'Bretwalda' or overlord, he navigated the complex transition from paganism to Christianity in England. His reign represents a peak of East Anglian influence, supported by the immense wealth and international connections evidenced by the grave goods found in Mound 1.
