René Descartes

A French philosopher and scientist (1596–1650), often called the father of modern philosophy. His *Discourse on the Method* established a framework for rational inquiry. He also observed that water heated for a long time seemed to freeze faster, proposing an explanation based on the evaporation of the most mobile particles, an early candidate mechanism for the [[Mpemba effect|mpemba-effect]].
