Silbo Gomero

A whistled form of Spanish originating from the Canary Island of La Gomera. It transposes Spanish phonology into a series of distinct pitches and continuities, allowing complex messages to be communicated across long distances, particularly over rugged terrain. It is recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
