Concept

superacid

A superacid is an acid with an acidity greater than that of 100% pure sulfuric acid. These substances, characterised by their extremely low Hammett acidity function values, are capable of protonating almost any organic compound, including alkanes. They are essential tools in modern chemistry for stabilising reactive intermediates and catalysing complex industrial processes like hydrocarbon cracking.
