Sutton Hoo

An archaeological site in Suffolk, England, containing two early medieval cemeteries dating from the 6th to 7th centuries. It is best known for the 1939 discovery of an undisturbed ship burial, widely believed to be that of King Rædwald. The site transformed our understanding of the Anglo-Saxon period, revealing a culture of immense wealth, sophisticated craftsmanship, and wide-reaching international trade links.
