Transmission Deficit Model

The transmission deficit model is a theoretical framework explaining why people experience tip-of-the-tongue states. It posits that semantic information and phonological information are stored in distinct systems. A retrieval failure occurs when the activation from the meaning of a word fails to pass through to the specific sound representation. This model is particularly effective at explaining why infrequent words or names are more likely to be forgotten.
