Concept

vanadium

Vanadium is a chemical element, a hard, silvery-grey, ductile transition metal. In metallurgy, it is often used as an alloying agent to increase the strength, toughness, and heat resistance of steel. Its presence as a trace impurity in original wootz steel was likely crucial for forming the distinctive carbide structures found in Damascus steel.
