Volga trade route

A vital medieval commercial artery connecting Northern Europe and Northwestern Russia with the Caspian Sea and the Abbasid Caliphate. Controlled by the Rus' and the Volga Bulgars, the route was the primary path for the exchange of Scandinavian furs and slaves for Islamic silver and Central Asian luxury goods, including high-quality steel.
