William James

William James was a 19th-century American philosopher and psychologist often referred to as the father of American psychology. His landmark work, The Principles of Psychology, laid the groundwork for modern study into consciousness, habit, and memory. James was among the first to provide a vivid description of the tip-of-the-tongue state, famously likening the experience to a ghost of a name that beckons the speaker.
