Concept

Acidosis

The word "Acidosis" is prominently displayed over an abstract, dark cloud-like background with light streaks, symbolizing the clinical condition where arterial blood pH drops below 7.35.

A clinical state in which arterial blood pH falls below 7.35. The causes split into metabolic — accumulation of acid from diabetic ketones, lactate from poor tissue perfusion, or kidney failure — and respiratory, where the lungs fail to clear carbon dioxide fast enough. Mild cases produce confusion and rapid breathing; severe cases stop the heart. The body's first defence is to breathe harder.
