Zero to fourteen. Seven is neutral water. Below seven is acid. Above is base. Your stomach sits at pH 1.5 to 2—strong enough to dissolve a razor blade. It's hydrochloric acid, the same stuff used to clean concrete. Your stomach doesn't dissolve because it replaces its entire lining every few days. Now here's the terrifying part. Your blood must stay between 7.35 and 7.45. That's a range of just 0.1 for normal function. Drop to 7.0—acidosis. Your enzymes denature, your cells stop working, you die. Rise to 7.8—alkalosis.
