A small Indo-Pacific octopus, commonly called the coconut octopus or veined octopus, found on soft-sediment bottoms from Indonesia to northern Australia. In 2009 Julian Finn and colleagues filmed individuals excavating discarded coconut-shell halves, cleaning them, and walking them across open ground to reassemble later as portable armour, the first widely accepted case of tool use in an invertebrate.
