Three hearts. Blue blood. A brain in each arm. And they might be smarter than your dog.

Octopuses have three hearts, blue blood, and nine brains. One central brain, plus a mini-brain in each of their eight arms that can act independently. Watch an octopus open a jar. It figures out the mechanism, remembers it, and gets faster each time. They solve mazes, recognize individual human faces, and hold grudges against people they don't like—spraying them with water. They've been observed using tools, carrying coconut shells as portable shelters. They play—something we thought only mammals did. They dream, their skin flickering through colors as they sleep. Here's the strangest part: they have almost nothing in common with us evolutionarily. Our last common ancestor was a flatworm 750 million years ago. Their intelligence evolved completely separately from ours. They're aliens on Earth. A parallel experiment in consciousness. And they only live 1-2 years. Imagine what they'd become if they lived longer. Imagine if they could pass knowledge to their young. Evolution built a mind we barely recognize—and then gave it almost no time to use it.
