Joshua Rosenthal

A man with short brown hair and glasses, wearing a light blue button-up shirt, stands against a dark background.

American molecular biologist at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. His group has shown that cephalopods recode their own RNA on an industrial scale, especially in nervous-tissue transcripts, allowing them to fine-tune protein function in response to temperature and other environmental pressures over hours rather than generations. The trade-off, his work argues, is a slower-evolving genome.
