Anders Franzén

Swedish naval engineer and amateur marine archaeologist, born 1918, who spent the early 1950s reading seventeenth-century salvage records and probing Stockholm harbour with a homemade core sampler of his own design. Located the Vasa in August 1956 and led the team that raised her in 1961. Later found the warship Kronan off Öland in 1980. Died in Stockholm in 1993.
