Baghdad Battery

An archaeological artifact consisting of a terracotta jar, a copper cylinder, and an iron rod, discovered near Baghdad in the 1930s. Dated to the Parthian or Sassanid periods, its design suggests it could have functioned as a primitive galvanic cell. While popularised as an ancient power source, many archaeologists believe it was a protective container for sacred scrolls.
