Bob Pearson

A senior airline captain wearing a white uniform with gold epaulets and a black tie, seated inside an aircraft cockpit.

Canadian airline captain, born 1932, who was in command of Air Canada Flight 143 on 23 July 1983. A senior 767 pilot with more than 15,000 hours, he was also an experienced sailplane pilot — an unusual second discipline that gave him the muscle memory for unpowered handling. He retired from Air Canada in 1993 and spent his later years lecturing on crew resource management.
