Claudia Fritz

Claudia Fritz holds a violin, dressed in a dark top, with a warm smile and elegant hairstyle, against a dark background.

French acoustician at the Sorbonne whose double-blind studies have done more than anything else to embarrass the Stradivari mystique. Working with the American luthier Joseph Curtin, she set up controlled comparisons in 2010, 2012, and 2017 in which professional soloists could not reliably distinguish old Italian instruments from new ones, and on average preferred the new.
