Concept

Co-axial escapement

A clock face with a co-axial escapement design, featuring two escape wheels and radial impulse surfaces, symbolizing the concept of a lever-derived escapement invented by George Daniels in 1976 and first produced industrially by Omega in 1999.

A lever-derived escapement invented by George Daniels around 1976 and first produced industrially by Omega in 1999. It uses two coaxial escape wheels and radial, rather than sliding, impulse surfaces. The geometry sharply reduces the friction that ordinarily governs how often a mechanical watch must be serviced. It remains the only fundamentally new mass-produced escapement design of the twentieth century.
