COSC

The entrance to COSC, the Swiss federal body responsible for certifying watch movements as chronometers, is illuminated at night with a large clock prominently displayed above the entrance.

The Contrôle officiel suisse des chronomètres, the Swiss federal body that certifies watch movements as chronometers. Established in 1973 from earlier cantonal testing bureaux, it runs laboratories in Bienne, Le Locle, and Saint-Imier. A movement spends fifteen days under test in five positions and three temperatures; only those keeping an average daily rate between minus four and plus six seconds pass.
