Côte d'Azur Observatory

A grand white building with a large dome and illuminated steps stands prominently against a twilight sky, representing the Côte d'Azur Observatory.

French astronomical observatory near Grasse, in the hills above the Mediterranean. Its 1.5-metre telescope has been ranging the Moon almost continuously since the early 1980s and provides the longest single-station baseline in the lunar ranging record. The European data, combined with American and (briefly) Australian observations, anchors the global lunar ephemeris.
