The Centre Suisse d'Électronique et de Microtechnique, a non-profit applied-research institute headquartered in Neuchâtel. Formed in 1984 from the merger of three Swiss watch-industry laboratories, CSEM bridges semiconductor process technology with mechanical micro-engineering. Its silicon-on-insulator wafer work in the late 1990s produced the etched hairsprings and escape wheels now standard in much of the high-end industry.
