Daniel Webster

Daniel Webster, dressed in formal attire with a black coat, white shirt, green-striped tie, and a dark bow tie, sits against a dark background, exuding an air of gravitas and authority.

American statesman and lawyer (1782-1852), twice US Secretary of State, regarded as the leading courtroom orator of his generation. In 1852, near the end of his life, he argued the Great India Rubber Case for Goodyear against the infringer Horace Day and won, charging a fee reported at fifteen thousand dollars — at the time among the largest legal fees in American history.
