Dead Sea Scrolls

A collection of approximately 981 manuscripts discovered between 1946 and 1956 in caves near the Dead Sea. Written primarily in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek, the texts include the oldest surviving copies of the Hebrew Bible and sectarian documents. They provide unparalleled insight into the religious and social diversity of Second Temple Judaism and the development of the biblical canon before its final stabilisation.
