Dhar Iron Pillar

A broken wrought-iron column stands on a pedestal, with its top section intact while the base and lower sections lie fragmented around it, set against a dark background.

A second great Indian wrought-iron column, now lying in three broken pieces in the Bhojshala compound at Dhar in Madhya Pradesh. Originally perhaps thirteen metres tall — substantially larger than Delhi's — it is attributed to the Paramara king Bhoja in the eleventh century. Its toppling date is uncertain; it was already prostrate when first described by European visitors in the nineteenth century.
