Direct Metal Mastering

A golden metal disc with concentric grooves and a central metallic hub is shown, representing Direct Metal Mastering, an analogue audio disc cutting technique developed by Neumann and Teldec.

An analogue audio disc cutting technique jointly developed by Neumann and Teldec. Instead of cutting the initial continuous groove into a soft lacquer-coated aluminium disc, the audio signal is lathe-cut directly into a hard copper surface. This eliminates several stages of traditional electroplating, reducing surface noise and improving high-frequency transient response.
