Dubna

Aerial view of a town with modern buildings and a straight road cutting through it, surrounded by trees and fields under a sunset sky.

Town on the Volga north of Moscow, built in the 1950s around the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research — a Soviet-era collaboration that survived the collapse of the USSR and remains the world's leading factory for superheavy elements. Five entries on the modern periodic table (dubnium, flerovium, moscovium, tennessine, oganesson) were synthesised wholly or partly there.
