Seismologist at the China Earthquake Administration who led a multidisciplinary team that built a new reconstruction of Zhang Heng's seismoscope, completed in 2005. The team used an inverted pendulum design and tested the device against simulated waveforms from documented historical Chinese earthquakes. It correctly identified the direction for four of them, the best performance any replica has achieved.
